Adrian Peterson remained one of the unsigned first-round draft picks around the NFL when Saturday ended.
MANKATO — First-round draft pick Adrian Peterson missed his third day of Vikings training camp Saturday, amid indications that the sides have inched closer but are perhaps several days from an agreement.
With Adrian Peterson remaining in Norman, Okla., the Vikings have rotated running backs Artose Pinner and Mewelde Moore with starter Chester Taylor. The Vikings hope to get Adrian Peterson in this week so he can begin working in the same backfield with Taylor, among other roles coaches have planned for him.
"It's a turns thing," coach Brad Childress said. "We install things a number of times. The more you can carry it, the more you understand it, so it's not just rote. We don't go back to things. You've got to catch up."
One complicating factor has been the five-year, $31 million contract the Atlanta Falcons gave to defensive end Jamaal Anderson, who was picked one spot behind Adrian Peterson in the draft. Anderson received $15.4 million in guaranteed money, which some in the NFL believe was more than his No. 8 slot called for.
Because the value of each slot is relative, the Anderson contract conceivably raised Adrian Peterson's value.
As of Saturday evening, Adrian Peterson was one of 10 unsigned first-round picks.
No issue with Williams
Childress said he has no concerns about the effects of defensive tackle Pat Williams' decision to terminate negotiations on a contract extension Friday. Agent Angelo Wright said this season likely is Williams' last in Minnesota, but Childress said: "I think we're in a good spot.
"I've had great conversations with Pat," Childress said.
"Just as long as my relationship with Pat stays good. I know where Pat stands. He knows where I stand. He's a team guy. He wants to be here. He's a valuable member of our football team, and I appreciate everything he does for us on and off the field."
Williams declined to comment after both practices Saturday.
