Mock draft version one
Here is my first mock draft. It is obviously very rough and I'm not including underclassmen with the exception of JaMarcus Russell, Ted Ginn and Glenn Dorsey because I've heard from reliable sources they are all coming. Other than that, I left undeclared underclassmen out of this list. As they continue to declare, I will continue to update my mock draft board. Look for an updated list each Monday.
1. Oakland - JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU: The Raiders get a big player (Al loves them big and fast... Russell gives them big at least) and they get a QB which they need badly.
2. Detroit - Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame: I'm dying to put Calvin Johnson here, but the Lions are probably too gunshy to draft another WR here. They do, however, need a long-term QB which might be the overrated Quinn.
**3. Cleveland - Calvin Johnson, WR, G.Tech: The Browns have a ton of needs, but if they draft "best available" Johnson is a mortal lock. The Browns also aren't big fans of Braylon Edwards so this makes sense on that front.
**4. Tampa Bay - Joe Thomas, LT, Wisconsin: Tampa watched their talented, young RB Cadillac Williams do nothing behind a dismal offensive line. Thomas would help the run game and the pass protection.
5. Arizona - Alan Branch, DT, Michigan: The Cards need Joe Thomas in the worst way and I doubt he'll be there. This might be a spot to trade out of. If not, Alan Branch might be the best on the board for a defense looking to improve against the run.
6. Washington - Ted Ginn, Jr., WR, Ohio State: It seems a little too early for Ginn and he hasn't declared yet, but the Skins would love to get their hands on a big WR since they have smaller ones in S. Moss and Randle-El.
7. Minnesota - Laron Landry, FS, LSU: This one should be a layup as an impact defensive player happens to play a position of extreme need for the Vikings. I'm sure they will be tempted to look at Sidney Rice and Dwayne Jarrett here as well.
8. Houston -Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma: Hard to believe, but if Adrian Peterson gets past Cleveland, he could definitely end up here. Adrian Peterson would be the favorite to win offensive rookie of the year.
