Doubtful Peterson
Adrian Peterson has rushed for 486 yards in two games against Oklahoma State, but the Oklahoma running back won’t pick up a yard when the Sooners face the Cowboys at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
“We’re not expecting him to play,” Stoops said on the Big 12 coaches conference call. “His CT scan or bone scan showed there is still a little bit of healing that needs to be done. This won’t change, I don’t believe. But we’re not expecting him to play, no.”
Eeven if Adrian Peterson rushed for 935 yards in the first six games this season, he suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of OU’s Oct. 14 victory over Iowa State.
According to team doctors, they expected the injury to take six weeks to heal and many speculated he would be back in the lineup for the Bedlam game.
Adrian Peterson's absence should come as good news to the Cowboys. Adrian Peterson rushed for a career-best 249 yards against them in 2004. He added a 237-yard performance in last year’s meeting. OU won both games.
While Adrian Peterson remains out, the Sooners could get a Bedlam boost if Allen Patrick is able to play. Patrick, who has rushed for 502 yards this season, has missed the last two games with an ankle injury.
Patrick, Chris Brown and Jacob Gutierrez have plowed ahead for the Sooners. OU is still averaging 184.2 rushing yards a game. Brown, a true freshman, has carried the brunt of the load the last two weeks, rushing for 253 yards, including 169 last time out at Baylor.
