Peterson Tackled twice by a Freshie Linebacker
Danny Carmichael, a first year linebacker fro MTSU showed improvement for a third straight game with increased playing time, as he helped replace injured senior linebacker Chance Dunleavy when the latter suffered from a dislocated knee cap.
He recorded five tackles in the previous two games. Four of which was against Oklahoma, including two tackles for loss of Heisman Trophy candidate Adrian Peterson.
"Tackling (Peterson), I don't know that I'll brag about it. But he is a great player. He'll be a high NFL draft pick, maybe top-five. So it felt good to get my hands on him," Carmichael said. "The environment was incredible, and I think I played all right for the situation. Everybody on the defense tried to make plays, and I tried to make a few."
Meanwhile, MTSU sophomore quarterback Joe Craddock has shown a lot of improvement too in his career. Craddock was 3-of-11 passing for a career-high 33 yards. He also rushed twice for three yards.
"This was a really good defense we were up against," Craddock said. "It was a tough environment, and we tried to do some things offensively. I tried to get something going, but we just couldn't move the ball enough."
Reggie Smith, MTSU’s punter recalls the missed tackle. "I just caught the ball and there was a huge hole. I thought, 'Man, it's not supposed to be like this,'" Reggie Smith said. "I just ran, and the punter had no chance really."
MTSU's defensive play has allowed its opponent to score on the first possession in three of four games.
Oklahoma started on MTSU's 38-yard line and drove to the 4 before MTSU stopped the march with back-to-back tackles for loss.
MTSU's first shutout since losing 55-0 to Florida in 2000 was the 59-0 loss last Saturday. |
