Vikings News: Minnesota Signs Robert Ferguson
The Minnesota Vikings resigned wide receiver Robert Ferguson to a one-year deal on Saturday.
Ferguson, 28, played for Green Bay in 2006. He caught 32 balls for 391 yards and one score last year with the Vikings.
According to Ferguson's agent, Brian Overstreet, "other" teams, specifically Chicago and Pittsburgh, have expressed interest in him, but Ferguson didn't make any visits.
"[Minnesota] is a situation he was comfortable with," Ferguson's agent said. "It's kind of like this: Do you take $1.5 million to go somewhere and maybe not even make that if you're not going to get a fair opportunity, or do you take it somewhere where you've done some things and have a level of confidence?"
Ferguson has been plagued with injuries in his seven-year career, but managed to remain healthy for Minnesota's entire 2007 campaign.
Ferguson's deal is $1 million, with possible incentives worth $500,000 to $600,000.
He will join a revamped Viking's receiving corps with the addition of former Bear's receiver Bernard Berrian.
Ferguson will most likely be the third receiver on the depth chart, behind Berrian, and Sidney Rice, who is entering his sophomore season as a Viking.
Minnesota's head coach Brad Childress has good things to say about Ferguson:
He says that Ferguson provided "great leadership and toughness [for the receiver] group last year."
